Middle Eastern / Mediterranean Cuisine (from Arabia to Morocco and Euro - Greek Italian) : Kazbah

Christmas is a time for getting together and you simply can't get away from feasting.
Venturing beyond the popular Italian and Thai restaurants, we came to an Arabic restaurant which has outlets in Balmain, Darling Harbour and Ryde.

The breakfast mezze plate was a good sampling experience even for those familiar with Middle Eastern food. Pita bread goes well with avocado and yoghurt dips, olives and salmon. (The offerings vary daily and available from morning to 3 pm)

Spicy fried cauliflower with sweet eggplant jam, pinenuts and yoghurt tahini

The all-time favourite falafel is absolutely delicious, unlike chilled and frozen ones from supermarket. Though it looked hard and dry, the inside is juicy, filled with chopped herbs, spices and vegetables. The yoghurt dip/sauce goes well and overall presentation was simple but impressive.

Crispy soft-shell crab was a tad oily because of the thick batter.

Lemon Bharat Chicken shish kebab with crispy chips and pickled vegetables, dip and bread

The lamb tajine looks very good but we didn't have any space left for another main.

There were other Mediterranean dishes on the menu but go for the desert frontier dishes as that's what they specialise in.

Exotic decor and atmosphere

Service was friendly. The food came quickly in the beginning but got tardy when it got crowded and the kitchen was busy. Be prepared for $40 per person (either set or ala carte sharing) but you'd be satisfied with the sumptuous and healthy meal.
